A tote board is a large numeric or alphanumeric display used to convey information, typically at a race track to display the odds or payoffs for each horse.

The term "tote board" comes from the colloquialism for totalizator (or totalisator), the name for the automated system which runs pari-mutual calculating payoff odds, displaying them, and producing tickets based on incoming bets.

The first totalisator was invented by William Brownie Garden. The machine was installed at Ellerslie Racecourse in New Zealand in 1925, and the second was installed at Gloucester Park Racetrack in Western Ausrailia in 1930. Julius founded Automatic Totalisators Limited (ATL) in 1917, which supplied the 'Premier Totalisator; now including electrical components.

The first totalisators installed in the United States were at Hialeah Park, Florida in 1932 (by ATL), and at Arlington Park racecourse, Chicago, in 1933.

Wireless miniature tote boards can be an exact duplicate of the infield tote board, but smaller. The digits are slightly smaller that 3" tall, but are still highly visible in indoor applications. This board measures 2' tall, and 13' wide.

A photo finish occurs in a sporting race when two (or more) competitors cross the finishing line at or near the same time. As the naked eye may not be able to discriminate between which of the competitors crossed the line first, a strip photo, a series of rapidly triggered photographs, may be used for a more accurate check.

Fully automatic time (abbreviated FAT) is a form of race timing in which the clock is automatically activated by a starting device, in this case an infrared sensor. All fractional times and the finish time is obtained using appropriatly placed sensors as well. The system is commonly used in horse racing.

Race times are typically displayed on the timing section of an infield tote board, remote driver displays in the case of harness racing and on the closed circuit television system.

While harness racing typically times to an accuracy of 1/5th of a second, Thoroughbred times are most often display in 100ths of a second.

BARREL RACING STARTING LIGHT TREE

Operated via wireless transmission, this light tree provides a lighted countdown to the start, where an audible signal indicates the start of the race. LED Displays begin counting, and sensors make sure the start is not breached prior to the signal, and take the finial split providing individual course times. Times are sent to the CCTV system.

Mirror assemblies are built to order in our shop.  Powder coating is not necessary on the alluminum parts, but gives a beatiful finish that fits it place on the track.  Available in any height, for greyhound, thoroughbred dirt or turf courses.
